America’s Most Weed Friendly Cities

This is an excerpt from an article that appeared in the June, 2011 issue of The Art of Mary Jane Magazine.

America, the beautiful! From sea to shining sea this land of ours remains one of the most magnificent on the planet, and always made more magnificent when enhanced with a few puffs of kind bud – but make sure you know what kind of town you’re in before you light up, or you might find yourself with shwag weed, or even worse, cooling your heels in the local lock-up. Let’s examine the best cities in the country for scoring, smoking, and steering clear of the law.

San Francisco – Haight-Ashbury still crawls with counter-culture types thumbing their noses at the system, and it remains one of the easiest places to score without fear of law enforcement interference. In this town, the cops are probably just about as high as everybody else.

Portland, ME – It gets real cold on a winter’s night in Portland, but that’s all the more reason to take in Northern Lights and mellow out in this ultra-liberal town that has essentially decriminalized marijuana.

Louisville – Marijuana is not just the number one cash crop in the Bluegrass state, there are many who believe it is the number one export. The cops tend to be especially lax about enforcement in Louisville, as they recognize how the marijuana trade is central as a source of revenue for locals.

Boulder – Rocky Mountain High, baby! Boulder is awakened on the left-leaning side of the political consciousness, but it awakens itself even more passionately for a good wake and bake.

Madison – High-grade bud from tight Canadian connections keeps this town in a mellow haze, and with a police force concerned far more with the real dangers its citizens face than the encroachment of a few outdated drug laws regarding possession and cultivation.

So pack your bong and enjoy your travels. We’ll see you on the road.
